Pirates-Hype… not just from Disney anymore.
It’s taken the film companies years to learn to use the internet to build hype on their films. It’s nice to see a uniquely successful franchise (one that has some breakthough originality) return to the screen for a third adventure.
I was completely amazed at the character work in the second film, and knew that John Knoll and his ILM crew truly deserved the Oscar. Finally… using CGI to create characters that were far more than a mere ‘man in a suit’ could achive. Bravo John.
If you’re curious about the effects for the second film, Industrial Light and Magic has posted a terrific website to promote the effects for Oscar consideration. It’s called ‘The Show’. (Be sure to view the video clips that present sequences from the film as shot on the set, and how they were after all of the effects were added.)

Back to marketing, it’s amazing that Disney is hyping THE TRAILER for the next film… but if it worked for Lucas with the Star Wars Prequels, it should work for Disney. I stopped to consider, do I want to use the Blog for shamless marketing hype for a studio. Yes. I’m impressed! This is supposed to not only be a simple countdown timer, but also a player that will stream video of the events leading up to… a trailer? It makes me wonder what they are going to do when the film is being released?! I miss showmanship, and if using the internet to get people excited is their goal, then why not show some support. (I hope that the film measures up!)
On with the show!
