He would take space telescope images and sharpen and enhance them from a soft fuzzy image to amazing quality. A number of years later he realized that this same technology, using image data that is usually invisible to the naked eye, but is actually recorded in the image when photographed, would be an amazing enhancement and benefit to the film industry. Just imagine, movies BETTER than theatrical. (His technology also STABILIZES and CLEANS the image to remove dirt and photographic flaws).
Flash forward… John’s system has been used on many classic films and the results are stunning. John has been so successful that his company Lowry Digital Images was purchased by DTS, and is now DTS Digital Images with John still there.
