‘Happy Tree Friends’ Toon Gets Banned From Russia: It’s Just Too Violent
God bless The Happy Tree Friends! As reported today by those who know, Moscow has banned this sweet, innocent cartoon from Russia’s delicate soul, sparing millions of citizens pain and suffering. Reason cited: “It’s too violent” said Rossvyazokhrankulutra (government watchdog).
Roman Sarkisov, general director of the channel, said the cartoons were within a month of the end of their license period and taking them off air harmed neither the company nor viewers.
“We did not argue with Rossvyazokhrankulutra — the cartoons are shorts of a few minutes each that our viewers have seen hundreds of times. Rather than argue we took them off air, although any television criminal drama in Russia is a hundred times more violent than these cartoons,†Sarkisov told Foolish sources.
Russian viewers are not alone in thinking “Happy Tree Friends†too violent: a comment dated August 2006 posted on Internet movie portal IMBD noted: “Many have complained it (is) too violent and awful such as the little cute pink bear always getting decapitated or dismembered,†before adding, “but if you look past that it is a very funny show that is totally unpredictable.â€
For the record, the Fools have and will continue to fully endorse Mondo Media’s ‘Happy Tree Friends.’
