Bee Movie…. Ahh… the great days of movie marketing!
The best coming attractions come when they are designed to get you excited about a film… and not show you the whole damn thing in two minutes. We did a short segment on the podcast called “the 2 minute movie review,” and it was all about reviewing an entire film though what is given away in the trailer. Unfortunately we were pretty accurate, and in this world of studio suits deciding that all of the money they spent making the film needs to be put right in front of you to get you to actually see the film, they completely give everything away since—in their short-sighted minds—the story and experience no longer matters. You see, in a way they are right… and that is in their belief that if they can’t convince you to go see the film to begin with, they won’t make their money back. How limited their view is. No surprises, no point in seeing the film to begin with!

INSPIRE filmmakers… let them set the stage for the picture… you have an audience, tease and get them excited about the movie… The better the trailer is… the move excited I am to see the film. Without going into great detail, Spielberg is a master of the tease… look at the trailers for Close Encounters, E.T., Jurassic Park, and so many others… and now… without further rambling… go watch the new trailer to “Bee Movie”… (and for that matter, watch the previous one too…) “Bee Movie”… it’s not just another animated feature…
P.S. No! E.T. was not made of brown Play-doh and chicken wire… well maybe the original sculpture, but not the puppet!!!

Spielberg is amazingly funny in this trailer. I’ve seen him be himself before (like in Goldmember) and look bored. Here his timing looks effortless. I love him flicking the foam off his coffee.
