Okay, I know this is fluff, but I couldn’t resist. And as the British say…”brilliant.” Future pirate Keith and I need to hook up and write some black comedy. First, thank God Reuters, one of the most respected news organizations in the world, every UK newspaper, TV and online outlet, and every other wire service throughout the world actually printed this story.
“LONDON: April 4, 2007 — Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards said in a new interview with a British music magazine that he once snorted his father’s ashes mixed with cocaine during a drug binge.”
Then Richards came out and said he was joking and Reuters retracted it, conveniently blaming the source NME as seen in this article and the first one was taken down.

I’m not going to harp on this, but the media was so ready to pounce on the sensational side to the story, they forgot to ask themselves if it is supposed to be funny or not. NME, a leading respectible source for music news uses interviewer Mark Beaumont’s attemp to explain himself as NME’s defense as to why the egg is still dripping off its chin.
Keith has long been known as a prankster, someone interviewing the rockstar could’ve known perhaps a little about him before the interview. Let me quote Keith from the article:
“He was cremated and I couldn’t resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow. My dad wouldn’t have cared, he didn’t give a shit. It went down pretty well, and I’m still alive.”
Do think Keith really did it? Was it really an April Fools joke? You decide. Let us know.

Exactly two years ago, 2 Live Fools was born! In this two-year anniversary show, Dave and Marc unveil the 2 Live Fools entertainment hub at http://www.2livefools.com. Check it out (if you’re not already on it). In this show, the Fools dish about the crazy behind-the-scene footage of I <3 Huckabees and the brilliant exchange between director David O. Russell and Lily Tomlin. The Fools talk about the new Apple TV and its space limitations and whether or not a friendly alternative (i.e. XBox 360) might be better. Dave and Marc also throw in two more cents about the on-going iPhone conversation (look out for the iPhone multi-part blog post by David in the near future). The Fools finish out talking about Grindhouse, a unique movie(s) in more ways than one (also, see our post).

Today, at the Mann’s Chinese Theater, the US Postal Service announced the availability of Star Wars postage stamps on May 25th to celebrate the series 30th anniversary. Never before has the USPS featured Star Wars on their collectibles… err stamps!
BRAVO! Bravo. bravo… grumble… ONLY after ten years of other countries releasing postage stamps of Star Wars, here’s OUR chance.

In a move that I would more likely believe has to do with who is and who isn’t being paid for their appearance on the “William Shatner Roast” DVD, Leonard Nimoy’s segment where he and Bill have an argument about Bill doing the roast has been censored on this ‘extended and uncensored’ DVD!
Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner (Uncensored) It’s only $14.99 at Amazon!
While the back does read, “over 20 more minutes of Shatner Skewering,” it doesn’t quite say that content was removed. There is a notice that “Music and content have been changed for this DVD from the broadvast version,” but nowadays when someone says EXTENDED & UNCENSORED they don’t mean Original broadcast shortended & censored… before adding footage.
Notably missing is this pivotal segment from the original broadcast. I’ve been through this before. So much opportunity for money to change hands, and the focus is lost. While no one ever got rich on good intentions, it really is disappointing when a show is missing a segment from broadcast, especially one as memorable as Leonard’s appearance.

Memo to: Peter Bart
Hi Peter, perhaps you know who I am, or perhaps the indie filmmaker who chops down a tree at a time as an entrepreneur wouldn’t be in your sites whatsoever. As a fellow insider, a film company owner (though small it may be), and working writer/director/producer who must also take advice and criticism with many grains of salt, I represent a sobering voice from the streets of movie town USA. And I must say one thing before I read another “memo†from the Desk of Peter Bart: your memos are stupid.
Whew, that felt good. Now a fool like myself would never revile someone of your veteran prowess as a journalist, nor really care to pick apart any of your fascinating editorials, but let me give it a shot. Pete, when you are trying give public advice to a very successful and famous businessman, someone who is at the top of arguably the most competitive business in the world, someone who has the vast resources and wide reach of influence you wouldn’t even come close to knowing, make sure it’s at least advice that isn’t stating the laymen’s obvious.
