Lucasfilm has just posted at their www.starwars.com website a free PDF that you can print, cut, and fold into your very own R2-D2 mailbox! (Didn’t I say something recently about a marketing opportunity for miniature mailboxes??? Read our previous discussion here…)
It’s your very own origami R2-D2 mailbox! You can either go to their official link here, to read more about it, or…
…save time and directly download your own R2-D2 PDF, click this link. (Note, it’s a two page document, Instructions on page one, R2 on page two.)
Funny… and I thought there was going to be one sold… Maybe that’s still to come. Until then, get your scissors, and enjoy!
Today, at the Mann’s Chinese Theater, the US Postal Service announced the availability of Star Wars postage stamps on May 25th to celebrate the series 30th anniversary. Never before has the USPS featured Star Wars on their collectibles… err stamps!
BRAVO! Bravo. bravo… grumble… ONLY after ten years of other countries releasing postage stamps of Star Wars, here’s OUR chance.
As we reported a few weeks ago, in a bit of breakthough marketing, Disney is now streaming the new Pirates II trailer to everyone’s website that features their player.
I’ll reserve my comments about the trailer until Marc and I get a chance to review it for the return of our “2 Minute Movie Review!”
On with the show! (If you’d prefer to watch it in HiDef… click this link.)
Now that you’ve seen the trailer… go back and read my story about the way Disney is marketing the film! Here’s the link.
It has been so many years since the HAL-9000 computer demonstrated that in 2001 we could be able to talk to our computers and they would clearly talk back to us. It’s 2007, six years after the events in 2001: a space odyssey! I want true simple Speech Recognition!
This is more of a complaint that a ’state of the technical union’ address.
We’ve come a long way since Apple hired Industrial Light and Magic to create their 1987 proof of concept video called the “Apple Knowledge Navigator.”
With the internet permanently established, voice-over the internet (VOIP) phone calls, and video cameras in our computers, we’re not that far off. But why are we completely stagnant when it comes to True Speech Recognition? There has to be a reason… did Microsoft Patent the idea and want too much money to make it practical? Why can you talk to a human sounding machine on the phone, that can practically understand what you say, but your computer can’t?At least True Speech Synthesis has evolved considerably. Here… listen to this clip from Apple’s upcoming 10.5 (Leopard) version of the Mac OS X here. You see, the USPS has new mailboxes… or shall I say ‘mail-droids’? Images have leaked of the United States Postal Service’s new mailboxes that feature ‘R2-D2′ as the mail box, and the USPS has rules against anyone who is still alive being represented on stamps. Well, there’s now a rumor that this is going to be the year of Star Wars stamps too! I would assume the rules would also govern a person or characters use as a promtional mailbox as well. (Wouldn’t that be even more exposure? Why would a rule govern stamps but not other aspects of the United States Postal Service? Oh yeah… Money.)
(KUDOS to TheForce.Net for their scoop on the photos of these mailboxes. Click this link for more great photos of the mailboxes.)First and foremost… I really enjoy the idea of these mailboxes, and would love to own one… Uhhh… See my ‘R2-D2 Collectable?’ message at the bottom…
