James Cameron Tells The WHOLE Story Of Avatar! First Image too!

Posted by
June 2nd, 2009

Here is the first public image from Avatar. (Thanks HitFix!)

For months we’ve been waiting for ANY clue about James Cameron’s first new film since Titanic. I thought we’d see a trailer soon that would just hint at the story and thrill us with the visuals.

I was wrong… Well, I guess it had to happen, but I didn’t expect it at E3.

Before talking about the UBISOFT videogame, James Cameron has just told an audience of hundreds… and now thousands (thanks to the net), exactly what Avatar is about, (including the ending!). I guess that’s necessary for anyone to understand the point of the game.

Video after the break!

Apple Releases Mac OS X 10.5.7 Update-Enabled Mail/iPhone Notes Syncing!

Posted by
May 13th, 2009

After a long stretch since Apple last updated Mac OS X, yesterday marks the release of their latest updated, 10.5.7.

While there are many new features, perhaps the most important to iPhone and iPod Touch users is the ability to sync ‘Notes’ between Apple’s Mail application and their iPhone 3.0 based device. (As noted by www.spaziocellulare.com at http://www.spaziocellulare.com/ispazio/en/2009/05/12/apple-solves-iphones-and-ipod-touch-dfu-mode-problem-in-mac-os-1057-and-brings-notes-sync-with-via-usb-and-itunes-82/).

I highly recommend that every Mac owner update.

Can’t Actually Download Books With Apple Kindle App – Really?

Posted by
March 5th, 2009

Kindle iPhone App

Kindle iPhone App

Kindle iPhone App Page View

Kindle iPhone App Page View

It all makes sense now, why would Amazon, who would like to sell more Kindles, allow an app that fully functions as an actual Kindle? Yup, that’s right, you can transfer and read Kindle books on your iPhone or ipod touch, but connecting directly to the Kindle Store to instantly purchase the next best seller…think again. To download books, you need to open your browser on your iPhone or touch and go to Amazon.com like any other schlep downloading a book. Oh, and if you’re a newspaper or periodical reader, forget about it. The app doesn’t support those formats yet.

Ha! And you thought you had it made you thumb-scrolling, App-addicted FOOLISH consumers!

On the other hand, if you simply want to use your iPod/iPhone to read a book you’ve already downloaded and have been reading on your Kindle, the app will remember where you left off and resume at that point. Not bad as a Kindle auxiliary device that can show color, for those of you who read comic books on your Kindle in beautiful shades of gray. Frank Miller rejoice!

Here’s a nice Kindle App review for your ganderization: Comparing Kindle 2 With Kindle’s iPhone App

Pixar/Disney Announces BluRays of Monsters Inc. and A Bug’s Life… Low Res?

Posted by
February 21st, 2009

(Thank you TheHDRoom.com for the usage of your image.)

Monsters Inc. and A Bug’s Life were rendered for film at 1536×922. HD’s 1080p resolution is 1920×1080. So how can these films be released on BluRay in true, native 1080p resolution? The answer? ONLY if they re-render the films over again at the higher resolution.

A short time ago Pixar and Disney announced that both Toy Story I & II are being re-rendered in actual 3D for re-release in October 2009, as a prelude to March 2010′s release of Toy Story III also in 3D. These would have to be re-rendered in higher quality to insure a native 1080p BluRay release as well.

Barack Obama: Our Teleprompter Bobble Head

Posted by
February 13th, 2009

Barack Teleprompter Bobble Head

Barack Teleprompter Bobble Head

Let me first start by saying that I really dig our president so far. In fact, of all the candidates, he’s the guy I would have cast as the lead in my huge blockbuster which I haven’t really thought of yet but will probably be something like: Barack Obama + Die Hard = saving all of mankind. I have fond memories pitching (at the urging of my agent) ‘Die Hard on a train,’ ‘Die Hard in a blimp,’ ‘Die Hard in a mall,’ et. al. God those were the days. I digress. What I want to rant about today is the dizzying back and forth bobbling Barack Obama’s head does between the two teleprompter screens. It’s like a ping pong ball between two paddles. Let’s break it down…

I’m not sure whether or not his speeches are kind of running together at this point since I’ve seen all of them thanks to my info/news addiction. As a junky, I do recognize my problem, so when I get sick of listening to speech after speech, same old rhetoric after same old rhetoric, I have have to take my annoyances with grains of salt (preferably on popcorn). But this criticism comes after realizing that not only might I be bugged, the general working American may eventually feel the same way since the media can’t go without televising every damn speech. So for God’s sake, before Obama’s superstardom is questioned, let me try to avert catastrophe…

I recommend to the President’s AV peeps to move his stereoscopic teleprompter mirror screens closer together. This would accomplish two things: 1) it’s less distracting when he’s going from side to side on every sentence, 2) we, as viewers at home, may actually feel like he’s speaking to us too, with an occasional glance straight ahead into the camera.

As a technical guy who understands camera placement, I realize that by moving the teleprompter screens closer together, the camera has to stay on the medium shot and can’t really pull back while he’s delivering the speech. But that’s what the networks’ cameras do any way, so really what would we lose? Answer: friggin’ nothing.

Bill Gates Actually Sucking Blood Out Of People

Posted by
February 5th, 2009

“‘Malaria is spread by mosquitoes!”

Unbelievable! In a non-funny attempt to prove that we Americans (the more fortunate?) can get malaria from mosquitos too, Bill Gates chose to release his little friends on an unsuspecting group of technologists at the Technology, Entertainment, Design Conference in Monterey, California.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs Takes Medical Leave Til End of June…we hope.

Posted by
January 14th, 2009

By JESSICA MINTZ, AP Technology Writer

SEATTLE ? Apple Inc. co-founder and Chief Executive Steve Jobs said Wednesday he is taking a medical leave of absence until the end of June ? just a week after the cancer survivor tried to assure investors and employees his recent weight loss was simply caused by a treatable hormone deficiency.

Jobs, 53, said in a letter last week that he would remain at Apple’s helm despite the hormone deficiency, and said he had already begun the “relatively simple and straightforward” treatment for the problem. But in an e-mail to employees Wednesday, Jobs backtracked.

“During the past week I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought,” he wrote.

Apple’s chief operating officer, Tim Cook, will take over Jobs’ responsibilities while he is on leave.
After-hours trading on Apple shares was halted. The Cupertino, Calif.-based company’s stock had sank $2.38, or 2.7 percent, to close at $85.33.

Jobs announced in 2004 that he had undergone successful surgery to treat a very rare form of pancreatic cancer ? an islet cell neuroendocrine tumor. The cancer is easily cured if diagnosed early. Jobs did not have a deadlier and more common form of pancreatic cancer called adenocarcinoma.

EDITORIAL: One thing money can’t buy is health, and just like our sad losses recently, I hope that Steve truly does recover quickly. We live in a new world where creativity and passion for the future is not as embraced as it used to be. Steve is a great leader who has changed the world time and time again. I want to live in his future with him, and not stagnant like Windows. -David C. Fein

Sad Day… We’ve Lost Ricardo Montalban and Patrick McGoohan

Posted by
January 14th, 2009

I was introduced to Ricardo at the followup screening for Paramount Home Entertainment’s Director’s Edition of Star Trek II. The man was in a wheelchair, and amazingly happy and talkative. I was so impressed by his love of life, and unmistakable voice. I know that he has many friends who are welcoming him now. With great respect I see him go.

I never met Patrick, but was always impressed by his work. I was always taken by his performance in the show ‘The Prisoner’. He’s a man who was on a very short list of people that I had hopes of working with in the future.

Both are great actors, and today… I feel that we’ve all had a great loss of talent.

Cheers and best wishes go with them on their journey.
